Taking Our Impact to New Heights
The Minnesota Zoo has always strived to be a Zoo of the future. And with funding from the Minnesota Zoo Foundation and its donors, the Zoo was able to recommit to this goal with its latest project, the Treetop Trail. A groundbreaking reimagining of the Zoo’s decommissioned monorail track, it’s now the world’s longest elevated walking loop, and has redefined what a trip to the Zoo looks like. Guiding visitors through leafy branches and past scenic overlooks, guests experience the Zoo’s mission in action as they reconnect with nature and wildlife from a unique point of view.
The Treetop Trail was designed to offer accessibility to all guests regardless of background, ability, or nature experience level, giving every visitor an opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and connect with their favorite animals. Since opening, it has become home to one-of-a-kind experiences from birdwatching and leaf-peeping to educational programming and exciting animal encounters.
The impact of the Treetop Trail has been profound. Within its first year, it received numerous accolades, including:
Top Project of 2023 Honoree and People’s Choice from Finance & Commerce
2024 General Design Honor Award by the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects
American Public Works Association’s Public Works Project of the Year
First Place in Sustainability in Blooloop’s Innovation Awards
Commendation for Excellence in Design for Integration by the American Institute of Architects Minnesota
Leading-edge innovations like the Treetop Trail would not be possible without donor support. Funding provided by donors to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation was a driving force behind the realization of this project. Donors make it possible for the Zoo to continue evolving, furthering their mission to connect people, animals, and the natural world to save wildlife.
Your support ensures that the Minnesota Zoo remains at the forefront of conservation, education, and animal care, enriching the lives of our visitors and the well-being of our animals for years to come. Visit our donations page to learn more about how you can make an impact.
